Alonso voted third best 2005 championF1 title winner Fernando Alonso has finished third in a ranking of the world`s best sports champions of 2005. The Spaniard, at 24 the youngest ever drivers` champion in the Grand Prix history, was beaten to the honour by Swiss tennis player Roger Federer and MotoGP`s Valentino Rossi.
The `Champion of Champions` label is determined by a vote of journalists for the French sport daily L`Equipe. World number one Federer earned 676 points, ahead of Italy`s Rossi, with 387. Not far behind was Alonso, 24-years-old like Federer, collecting 324 points.
Ethiopian runner Kenenisa Bekele came fourth, followed by footballer Ronaldinho. World Rally`s Sebastien Loeb finished ninth best.
