Manufacturers to get nothing in 2008?Freshly re-elected as FIA President Max Mosley has threatened to reignite political warfare within Formula One.
The 65-year-old Englishman suggests to British newspapers that, out of the sport`s $800 million per-year revenue, the already irritated car manufacturers should receive a grand sum of zero. Mosley reckons private teams should get the loot.
"I believe it would be entirely reasonable to offer the manufacturers no income," he said.
Although imminent peace looked likely to break out in F1, Mosley`s comments are sure to re-enrage GPMA, an alliance already threatening to break away and form their own championship in 2008, made up of BMW, Renault, Mercedes, Honda and Toyota.
In the end, however, Mosley`s remarks probably mean little - the FIA is a sports regulator that is not able to weigh in on F1`s commercial side. That responsibility belongs only to Bernie Ecclestone, owner of a 100-year lease of F1`s monetary rights, but also a close Mosley ally.
Mosley`s comments also coincide with reports that the European Union is now investigating F1`s sale to CVC. The transfer will not be completely official without an EU green light.
