Seeking additional power and reliabilityAccording to numerous media reports, McLaren will soon test a redesigned version of its 2006 2.4 litre V8 engine.
The reports, originating from Autosport, claim that Mercedes-Benz has prepared a new specification of the troubled FO108S unit, which has so far proved uncompetitive and unreliable on the test tracks.
With reportedly 50 or 60 more horse power, it could be ready for this week`s Jerez test, where all McLaren drivers - Kimi Raikkonen, Juan Pablo Montoya, Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett - will run.
If Mercedes` new powerplant does not debut this week, it should hen be ready for Valencia, scene of the next test.
