Jerez - Friday - TestingGiancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen finished first and second at Jerez today, confirming the potential of the Renault R26.
McLaren drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Pedro de la Rosa were able to set competitive times at the wheel of the MP4-21. The Finn drove the new car in the morning before letting the Spaniard take over in the MP4-21 in the afternoon. De la Rosa went off the track at the end of the straight when his car’s engine broke down.
Mark Webber completed only 15 laps today, the Australian driver’s FW28 suffering from a gearbox problem in the morning and the team were not able to repair it before the end of the session.
Gary Paffett and Tiago Monteiro went off the track without any damage to their cars while Scott Speed, Nick Heidfeld and Alex Wurz stopped on the track because of technical problems.
Tomorrow, testing continues on an artificially soaked Jerez track for Michelin teams McLaren (Pedro de la Rosa) and Renault (Kovalainen).
