Special event for the celebration of the raceThe French Grand Prix celebrates its centenary in July and to mark the occasion organisers are planning a concert staged by Roger Waters, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd.
Waters, with the band`s drummer Nick Mason - a committed motor racing fan - will perform the British group`s mythic 1970s album Dark Side of the Moon on July 14, Bastille Day.
"Nick`s going to be my co-driver," said Waters at the unveiling of the plans for the race`s birthday celebrations here on Monday.
Traditionally held at the start of July this year`s edition has been moved to July 16 to avoid clashing with the World Cup finals in Germany which winds up on July 9. July 14, France`s premier public holiday, is an appropriate date for the concert given that Waters has written an opera about the French Revolution.
"I`d planned to take this summer off until they approached me about Magny Cours and July 14 which makes a lot of appeal to me!"
