Realistic expectations for Toro Rosso racerAmerican rookie Scott Speed`s priority for his Formula One debut will be to beat his team-mate.
The 23-year-old, from California, will - in Bahrain next Sunday - become the first US-born driver since Michael Andretti to contest a Grand Prix.
However Speed admitted that wins and podiums are not level-headed targets. "Perhaps next year I will set more ambitious goals. Naturally, I want to show up well against my team-mate," said Speed, to be joined in the sister car by Tonio Liuzzi.
Amid all the controversy about engine equivalency, though, Speed declined to predict how his V10-powered racer will fare.
He told a teleconference with journalists: "Actually, I think we will be disadvantaged. V8s are the future of F1 and we will lose a year of valuable development."
"It is true that our reliability could look good at the start of the year, but it won`t take the V8s long to catch up."
