Armed with tear gas and batons, riot police battled with the group of nearly 200 in Manama, where Formula One billboards were set on fire and twenty people were hospitalised.

A Shiite opposition group issued a statement explaining that the protest had been staged because of the likely publicity surrounding the F1 race.
