Strategy coming into play at Silverstone
Michael Schumacher insisted he can still win the British Grand Prix despite only qualifying his Ferrari in third position today at Silverstone.
Schumacher seemed on course for the 67th Pole Position of his career with one minute of qualifying left, but was knocked down the order first by Fernando Alonso and then by Kimi Raikkonen.
"Naturally you'd rather be on Pole Position but it's much easier to win the race if you have the right strategy,” Schumacher said. “There's no reason not to believe that we have a package that could win the race.”
"As I said, strategy is an important factor, we don't know how much fuel is on board all the cars, but we'll see that tomorrow. We will see the long-run performance in terms of how the tyres behave over long runs and how competitive we are."
Ferrari were not among the ten teams that tested at Silverstone in April, but Schumacher does not feel his team are at a disadvantage.
"I'm told the track is a lot more slippery now than at the test, so it is no advantage for the teams that were here then,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher has won the British Grand Prix three times during his career and is looking to extend that run on Sunday, which would leave him just one victory off the record currently shared by Alain Prost and Jim Clark.
