We will have many more fights - Alonso
Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen have brought a riveting new rivalry to Formula One this year after Michael Schumacher`s domination, and they plan to be battling each other for many races to come. The duo ended their season Sunday at the Chinese Grand Prix having won 14 of the year`s 19 races between them - a straight seven each.
Although Alonso in a Renault triumphed in the race to be crowned world champion, Raikkonen, in a McLaren, is already looking ahead to next season and what he can do to prise it from his rival`s grasp. And it will all be done with mutual respect.
"Fernando is always very fair and clean," said Raikkonen. "There are no bad feelings between us. He`s been quick from the beginning and he definitely deserves it (the world title). But I will try and give him a hard time next year."
Raikkonen was unable to claw back the advantage Alonso gained by his flying start to the season, where he won races in Malaysia, Bahrain and San Marino. It wasn`t until the fifth race in Spain that the Finn was able to pop the winner`s champagne cork.
Alonso said his battles with Raikkonen made the season exciting for everybody and forecast more of the same in 2006.
"Everybody knows how good Kimi is. It has been a fantastic season, to be in the fight with him," said Alonso. "He is always kind out there and makes no mistakes. For the future we will have many more fights as we are both still young."
