Still seeking the unanimous agreement requiredSuper Aguri is pressing on with its new Formula One programme despite not being listed on the official FIA entry list issued earlier this month.
Despite missing the deadline in which to lodge the $48 million dollar bond as required, the team still hopes to make the field in Bahrain in March and is confident that the existing ten teams will give the approval – now required - for the addition of the team.
Martin Whitmarsh told the Reuters news agency that McLaren Mercedes has written to Super Aguri stating that they would support its entry but only did so at the request of Honda who are set to supply the team with engines. "My understanding is that at least Midland have dug in," Whitmarsh said. "If you are a turkey, you don`t vote for Christmas and they haven`t agreed."
Toyota has confirmed that it is backing the new team and would not stand in the way of any new entry into the series and has made its position clear to Midland who the Toyota powerplant.
The top ten teams in the championship are eligible to TV, but even the addition of Super Aguri would not effect things in the short-term anyway as the new team would not be entitled to revenues for the first two years anyway.
Should the team get the green light for 2006, Takuma Sato is expected to drive for the team with the backing from Fuji TV and other Japanese sponsors.
