Reductions of up to 75 percent
Malaysia’s Formula One promoter, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has announced price reduction of up to 75 percent for the 2006 Malaysian Grand Prix tickets with spectators able to enjoy the whole three days of racing thrills and excitement at only RM50.
"The SIC Board, in making this decision, unanimously felt that we should be making this world class event as accessible as possible for the general Malaysian public for more Malaysians to enjoy the event," stated SIC General Manager Datuk Ahmad Mustafa.

"Being the eighth edition of the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, we want more Malaysians to be part of this spectacular event and enjoy the event live at the circuit. Hopefully, it can generate greater interest among them and naturally become more actively involved in the sports."

The reduction in ticket prices involved the open Hillstand areas, which are now priced at RM50 for entry for the entire three days for the 2006 event. Last year, tickets for the open Hillstand areas were priced at RM200.

Tickets for the covered Hillstand C2, which were priced at RM250 last year, had been reduced by 40 percent to RM150 for a three-day entry.

Tickets at the grandstands remained the same as last year with tickets at the Main Grandstand pricing between RM500 to RM1,750. Seats at the K1 Grandstand are priced between RM700 and RM1000 while tickets for seats at the F Grandstand are priced between RM500 and RM800.

Sepang will host the second round of the 2006 Championship from 17 to 19 March – a week after the opening round of the season in Bahrain on March 12.

"Obviously, this will be something new for us and for Malaysia. But, we believe that this will have a positive effect to our race as the excitement for the championship will be at a high when the event comes to Malaysia."

"Operation-wise, we expect to be busier than before as all logistical requirements will need to be handled immediately upon arrival from Bahrain," said Ahmad, adding that he did not foresee any problem given the wide experience of his team.

Sepang first hosted the Formula One race in 1999 as the penultimate round. In 2000, the Malaysian leg was the final round of the season, which was then made as the second round in March in the following year with Melbourne remaining as the opening round.

Melbourne will be hosting the 2006 Commonwealth Games in March next year and had asked the world governing body for the Australian race to be shifted in April as the third round.

"With the new ticket prices, we hope to woo in more spectators for the 2006 race," he said, adding the 2005 race had the biggest attendance of more than 106,000 people.
