McLaren driver pips Alonso amongst German readersFernando Alonso may be the World Champion of 2005, but readers of Motorsport aktuell voted for 2005 arch-rival Kimi Raikkonen as `Driver of the Year`.
The weekly magazine is the biggest selling racing newspaper in the German speaking countries. Raikkonen received 27.4 percent of the votes, with Fernando Alonso coming second with 26.2 percent and in third place Michael Schumacher had nine percent of the votes.
Sebastian Vettel was voted the `Rookie of the Year` piping McLaren protégé Lewis Hamilton to the top spot.
Earlier in the month Raikkonen was crowned `International Racing Driver of the Year` ahead of Alonso at the Autosport Awards.
