During Catalunya IRTA testSimone Corsi is back in the 125cc class after a disappointing 250cc experience.
The Roman had made the step up in the quarter-liter category in the Aprilia factory squad but failed to deliver. It was an extremely difficult learning year for the 18 year-old rider who scored 59 points and classified 14th of the World Championship.
Released from Aprilia, Corsi makes his return in the lower class and will ride for the ‘Squadra Corse Metis Gilera`, a 125c one-man effort. Simone got onboard his new machine on Tuesday, on the Catalunya Circuit, for the first round of the IRTA test.
Fast lap times were not his priority as he focused exclusively on re- adapting his riding style to the small 125cc machinery. The Gilera rider declared himself quite satisfied with his work, despite having set the 16th fastest lap time, a 1.5s clear of Gadea`s best effort.
“It was a very busy day. I did 82 laps, around 400km, almost without stopping. We worked hard on improving my lines, using the telemetry. The bike was quite well-balanced, the chassis didn`t need that much setting changes and I concentrated only on my riding style”, he explained. “I can surely do better but I`m not looking for fast lap times yet. I`m making progress in order to be the most competitive as possible at the start of the season.”
Work goes on until two o`clock on Wednesday before the 250cc replace the 125cc on track. MotoGP will be running from Friday to Sunday.
