“I think they deserve our support”Kawasaki`s Shinya Nakano handed over a cheque for €5000 to Riders for Health joint Chief Executive, Andrea Coleman, during a brief presentation ahead of the annual IRTA test at Catalunya.
A staunch supporter of the Riders for Health charity, Nakano, together with Kawasaki Racing Team sponsor, Arlen Ness, produced a limited edition series of caps featuring the 28-year-old Japanese rider`s distinctive helmet design.
These caps were sold out during last year`s Japanese Grand Prix, with all the profits being donated to the Riders for Health charity, which works to improve the delivery of healthcare to remote communities throughout the developing world using motorcycles.
"Riders for Health make a big difference with their projects abroad, and I think they deserve our support," said Nakano. "Together with Arlen Ness we came up with the idea of selling the caps in Japan and donating the profit to charity, and I only wish we could have donated more. I am sure though, that even this small amount will be used for maximum benefit on some of the Riders for Health projects."
Nakano`s donation is equivalent to the costs of providing a health worker with a motorcycle, protective clothing, and training so that he can deliver regular health services to up to 20,000 people.
