He`s lost the BMW but wants to win even more!
Last Sunday, John Hopkins has asserted himself as one of the biggest adversary of the Yamahas on the wet, in the BMW Award organized at the end of Barcelona`s official tests.
The Anglo-American rider hasn`t be able to translate his work into a victory during that fictitious qualifying session, however his assessment of the IRTA tests is still very positive, especially that he`s been faster than anyone on Sunday morning.

After Kenny Roberts left at the end of 2005, Hopkins had to develop the 2006 GSV-R. The good results obtained in the last weeks strengthen his leadership role in the team although he`s only 22.

For Moto-Live.com, John has accepted to answer a few questions, on the eve of the last testing session before the beginning of the season. A relaxed encounter with an ambitious rider.

John, you seemed able to win the car. Are you very disappointed that you`ve missed the prize?
John Hopkins : “I was obviously disappointed as it would have been cool to win the car that`s for sure. But it wasn`t a race and I didn`t lose out on any points so it`s not too bad.”

Do you think you crashed because you`ve pushed too much?
JH : “I crashed because I got a bit greedy too early. The track was very slippery and cold so traction was difficult. I pushed a bit too hard and had a little high-side and off I came.”

Overall, what are your impressions of the new bike?
JH : “I am really happy with the way the new bike is developing, we still need a bit more power but I know Suzuki are working on that and everything is looking good for the start of the season.”

This year, you`re the most experienced rider in your team, does it affect your work approach?
JH : “I have continued to do my job as best I can. I really enjoyed the added responsibility of developing the new Suzuki GSV-R and it has made the early pre-season results all the better.”

What do you think about the performance of your new teammate, Chris Vermeulen?
JH : “Chris has settled into the team really well. He is a very professional rider as well as being a really nice guy. His performances have been good considering that he has hardly ridden a GP bike and his fifth place at Catalunya showed how far he has come already.”

Considering the competitiveness of the new GSV-R, you probably set yourself a goal for the first race of the year?
JH :“I always have aims and ambitions for the season but don`t say what they are. Let`s just say that I`m ready for the new season and I`m sure you will see something good from Rizla Suzuki MotoGP and myself!”
