At JerezRizla Suzuki MotoGP racers John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen were eighth and 15th quickest respectively, after the first day of the final pre-season test held today in spring-like conditions at Jerez in Spain.
Hopkins` best time of 1`41.740 was set during the 74 laps of thorough testing and was almost a second inside his fastest race lap from 2005. Vermeulen was making his first ever visit the Jerez circuit and impressed during his 71 laps, with a quickest time of 1`42.938 – only two seconds behind the fastest time of the day set by Loris Capirossi on the Bridgestone shod Ducati.
Both riders tested new engine parts for their Rizla Suzuki GSV-R XRE4s – designed to enhance mid-range performance – and they were equally impressed with the improvements. The team also worked on new main chassis settings and further Bridgestone tyre testing.
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP will have two further days testing at Jerez before the season starts at the same Spanish circuit on Sunday 26th March.
