Jerez : Day One – 125ccThe very first qualifying session of the 2006 season has seen Lukas Pesek scoring the ‘Gran Premio de Espana` provisional pole.
The Derbi rider topped the timesheet with a fastest lap of 1`47``734. He finished ahead of local favorite Alvaro Bautista, latest recruit of the Aspar Aprilia team.
Fastest in the morning, KTM`s Julian Simon could not repeat the feat but retained a provisional front row spot, just in front of Tomoyoshi Koyama`s Malaguti.
It was an impressive ride for the Japanese who relegated Italian ace Mattia Pasini to the second row. The Aspar rider leads last season runner-up Mika Kallio, Honda Humangest rider Gabor Talmacsi – Kallio`s former teammate, and Spaniard hope Sergio Gadea.
World Champion Thomas Luthi set the tenth fastest time of the day, 1.3 second away from Pesek. The Swiss is still nursing a left collarbone fracture sustained during Catalunya IRTA test three weeks ago. Simone Corsi came eleventh ahead of Joan Olivé and French youngster Alexis Masbou.
It turned out to be quite a disappointing start for Spaniard Pablo Nieto, fifteenth fastest. British rookie Bradley Smith, who graduated from the MotoGP Academy, was twenty fourth.
Last came wildcard rider Ivan Maestro.
