Jerez : Day One – Konica Minolta HondaThe first day of test in Jerez de la Frontera started with the bad weather. Rain, fallen up till late in the morning, has in fact made the first hour of free practice useless.
In the afternoon, riders have run on a completely dry track even if not it was not in the best conditions as those found during the IRTA Test yet. Weather conditions should change and become better and better during the week end.
The Konica Minolta Honda Team technicians have had the second free practice hour to terminate the Honda RC211V set up programmed using the results obtained here ten days ago as a base. Makoto Tamada, in the afternoon free practice hour covered a total of 24 laps setting his best lap time in 1`42.868”, finishing fifteenth in today`s classification.
Makoto Tamada (24 laps - 1`42.868”) : “Today, I made so many efforts to find the feeling obtained on this track during the latest IRTA Test again We could only test a couple of modifications which, altogether, permitted me to feel some benefits but, despite that, I have not been able to be sufficiently effective in driving. The bike seemed to be less easy to be driven than the last time, while we could reduce the chattering level a little. Tomorrow I`ll have to be able to change these improvements in a definitely better time result.”
Giulio Bernardelle – Konica Minolta Honda Technical Director : “Despite the hour we lost this morning, we could made the latest set up checks we planned.
The telemetry data analysis has allowed us to verify an improvement regarding in particular the chattering problem we suffered during the tests. For this, it is even more difficult to explain the reasons of this result. Tomorrow we will try to permit Makoto to stay on truck as mach as possible in order to find again the right feeling when driving his RC211V.”
