Three questions to Kris Nissen Volkswagen Motorsport Director.
How do you rate the competition in this year`s Dakar Rally?
"The competition is very strong – especially Mitsubishi, but also BMW and Schlesser. Mitsubishi with 20 years of experience and ten victories in this event are difficult to beat. That`s why I don`t see us playing the role of favourite.”

The "Dakar” was started in Lisbon for the first time – a good decision?
"I thought that the start in Barcelona last year was excellent, however the atmosphere at technical scrutineering and during the start ceremony in Lisbon was even better. I also think it`s a very good idea to start the event with two long stages – instead of just completing a prologue in Europe as was the case over the last few years.”

How is the atmosphere in the team?
"It was a positive step that we completed the preparations very early this year. As a result, the entire team could return home to their families after the roll-out in Madrid. Over the last few days you sense that the complete team is relaxed. This atmosphere is very good; everybody is fully motivated and happy that it has finally kicked-off.”
