Supermag Rally Italia Sardinia, fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship, selected the route of the special stages in order to preserve and protect nature and creates no flying zones in order to safeguard the Sardinian fauna. Frame of this event from April 29th to May 1st a new Sardinia different from the one known by the massive tourism.
The Authority for Forests Protection, part of the Sardinian Region Administration, for the protection and development of the forests and the fauna of the island intend to recover the ecosystem reintroducing the autochthonous fauna.
The first project concerns the Sardinian deer. Slightly smaller then the European one, with a medium size head, big eyes, big oval standing ears and small horns, it is the symbol of the nature preservation for Sardinia. After the carnage by means of the poachers in the 70`s the then State Forest Company and the present Authority for Forests Protection, carried out a restocking project of the species in different areas of the island, where it is now living in a natural sate.
Rally Italia Sardinia will show an unprecedented panorama to the teams, the drivers and the public that will visit Sardinia this year during the race. The special stages will pass near some forests of incredible beauty. Like the forest called Terranova (new land) in the Alà dei Sardi municipality, or the ilexes and the cork oaks in Sos Littos and Sas Tumbas, the Monte Olia, Monte Lerno e Filigosu areas where can be found the Mediterranean scrub, a mixture of arbutus and heather, and the woods of conifers and broad-leaf trees.
In each of these areas the Authority for Forests Protection and the Zoology Department of the Sassari University reintroduced deers, fallow deers and moufs.
In order to help this work regarding the fauna protection, no flying zones have been established over these delicate areas.
