Monte Carlo Rally 2006: OMV CEE - Leg 2
Following a nearly perfect beginning – the OMV CEE World Rally Team lay in third place in the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship after eleven of 18 special stages – Bulgarian brothers Yassen and Dyllan Popov dropped out today.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII skittered off the road in a right turn on the descent from the Col de Turini, coming to a stop only over 100 metres below. Fortunately driver and co-driver remained unhurt.

Difficult retrieval
Driver and co-driver got off comparatively lightly but the retrieval proved to be difficult. The car had come to a stop far off and way below the road in impassable terrain.

Both Yassen and his brother Dyllan Popov were taken to the hospital in Menton. A closer examination showed no serious injuries. Dyllan was diagnosed merely with minor breast contusions. The retrieval of the car, on the other hand, will prove to be difficult and take up most of the night. But this is obviously of minor concern, considering that things turned out all right for the OMV CEE World Rally Team in the end. What really counts is that both drivers are feeling all right.

Further OMV drivers in group N
A fifth, three sixth and one seventh special stage time in group N took Slovakian OMV driver Tibor Cserhalmi to excellent fourth intermediate place in the series class. Slovenian Andrej Jereb also finished leg two of the 74th Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo, now lying in sixth intermediate place after having reached two seventh and three eighth special stage times.
