‘Yes it`s more fun to fight back, that`s sure`
Marcus Gronholm may have won the first rally of the season on Sunday in Monte Carlo, it can be argued that the drive of the event came from defending Champion Sebastien Loeb. The Frenchman went off the road on the first day, failing to finish the stage and was handed a five-minute penalty. Seemingly out on contention in eighth position, he fought back to finish a stunning second.
"I thought the road was a bit wet, but it was more slippery," Loeb admitted in the post rally press conference. "I braked for the left corner, but we were going too fast and we went off the road and then had a spin. The car went into a ditch and was ten metres below the road. We could do nothing to come back on the road."

From that point Loeb set the pace in eight of the remaining 11 stages in his Kronos Citroen.

"I`m really happy with the handling of the car, it`s all working well but Monte is a tricky rally,” Loeb continued. “In this place I was a bit too fast. Yes it`s more fun to fight back, that`s sure. Marcus knows that it`s very difficult to drive with a big lead like he had; during two days in tricky conditions, it`s not funny. For two days we were pushing very hard to try to come back and take the place on the last stage. It was a very good moment."
