The Swede moving up to A8 classIt is now official, Daniel Carlsson will be at the start of the Swedish Rally at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer WRC. This morning at 10.00, the Swede received the confirmation by the FIA that his car change has been approved.
Initially, Carlsson was entered in the race in a Suzuki Ignis. It is only after the official entry list was completed that Carlsson had an agreement with Mitsubishi to drive a Lancer WRC.
After finishing sixth overall last year in his home event, Daniel was hoping to have another top result this time but the problem is the regulation makes it possible to switch cars but not to go from one class in that case A6 for the Ignis to another, the Lancer WRC belonging to the A8 category.
To move from one class to another, Carlsson needed a special dispensation from the FIA and the agreement from all of the teams registered in the race to let him switch to the A8 class.
Carlsson succeeded, the FIA agreed as well as all the other participants. Of course it is fantastic for us! said Carlsson on his website. The decision was expected but we could never be sure and now we are really happy to get to the startline on Friday morning. We want to thank all other competitors for letting the sporting talk - we will do everything we can to give them a hard fight!
Today and tomorrow, Daniel will take part to the Swedish Rally`s reconnaissance sessions before moving on to the Shakedown on Thursday morning.
