A Super Special stage is added
Corona Rally México - the third round of the 2006 FIA World Rally Championship and round two of the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship (subject to final FIA confirmation) - will once again be hosted in the State of Guanajuato and will run from 3-5 March with the emphasis firmly placed on further enhancing its successful format.
As such, the route through the Sierra de Lobos and Sierra de Guanajuato mountains remains as good as unchanged. However, the León-based event will feature a new and spectacular stage on the outskirts of the city. The ‘Nextel Super Special` will be hosted at the León Race Track and will run on Friday and Saturday evening, and as the event`s grand finale on Sunday morning.

“Aside from the super special, the most important aspect is that Corona Rally México will remain virtually the same for 2006,” said Rally Director Patrick Suberville. “The route worked very well this year, it had good sporting interest and enabled us to create a greater number of spectator areas with independent access. Running the same format next year allows us to build on those strengths and place even greater emphasis on refining other areas.

“A super special stage is something we have considered carefully over the last couple of years and now is the right time to take that step,” added Suberville. “Rallying has grown enormously in México and we have the potential to bring high-speed action to the doorstep of more than 15,000 León residents. The WRC now has the highest TV rating of all motorsport in México, including Formula One and Cart, where there are even regular Mexican drivers; that is some achievement for us and the spectacle the sport continues to deliver.”

With the inclusion of the super special stages, Corona Rally México`s provisional itinerary now takes in 17 stages over a total distance of 1,008.09 kilometers. With 359.89 kilometers of competition - 36% of the total distance - the route remains compact and never strays further than 50 kilometers from the Poliforum, rally headquarters for the third consecutive year.
