In the Junior ChampionshipStobart Motorsport has confirmed that Scottish Rally driver Barry Clark will be contesting the FIA Junior World Rally Championship in 2006 alongside his MSA British Rally Championship and Fiesta Sporting Trophy campaigns.
The confirmation illustrates the commitment of Stobart Motorsport to developing rally talent and means the Stobart VK Rally Team will be contesting both the World Rally Championship and the Junior World Rally Championship in 2006. The full season of the WRC is being contested for the squad by 19 year-old Matthew Wilson.
"It`s certainly going to be a busy year for me," says 23 year-old Clark. "Competing in the British Rally Championship, the Junior World Rally Championship and the Fiesta Sporting Trophy means I`m going to get a fantastic season of rallying and I can only thank the Stobart Motorsport Team for that."
The team are taking advantage of the increased media exposure provided by the JWRC with the entry of Clark made possible by the relaxation of rules allowing 2.0 Litre Group N cars to be eligible for the championship which runs alongside nine of the World Rally Championship rounds in 2006.
Clark is contesting the six JWRC rounds with new co-driver Scott Martin, which coincide with the Fiesta Sporting Trophy events, namely Spain, Corsica, Sardinia, Germany, Finland and Wales Rally GB.
"This program provides Barry with an excellent opportunity to develop his competitive career," says Stobart Motorsport spokesman, Willie Paterson. "The new regulations permitting the dual registration within the Fiesta Sporting Trophy and the JWRC will provide Barry with the very best opportunity to gain valuable WRC experience whilst remaining in the most competitive of environments."
In the MSA British Rally Championship Barry and Scott will be partnering 2005 BP Ford World Rally Team driver Roman Kresta. They will be competing in a pair of Stobart VK Ford Fiesta S1600 cars.
Barry`s first rally in 2006 will be the Rallye de Catalunya on March 24-26.
