And a few changes at SWRTAfter a difficult season start, the Subaru World Rally Team is ready to bounce back in Rally Mexico, round three of the World Championship.
The team`s Dirrector of Engineering, Steve Farrell talks about the upcoming Mexican event and the challenge it represents for SWRT.
“This event presents its own unique challenges,” explained Farrell. “With some stages nearly 3,000 metres above sea level, the rally has the highest average altitude in the championship. At that height the air is thinner and engines struggle to ‘breathe`. This means engine power output will be reduced and cooling becomes less efficient. To some extent the two problems compensate for each other, since the engine produces less power, but it also puts out less heat. This is the first rally where we might begin to feel the loss of engine water injection (banned under 2006 technical regulations) but we are confident that we have done our homework well.”
The Director of Engineering also revealed a few changes in the structure at SWRT: “This will be the first event for our new senior engineer, François-Xavier Demaison. Pierre Genon is moving to a new position as chief engineer, test and development and there will be a period of transition while Pierre shows him the ropes. In the fullness of time FX will take over as Petter`s engineer. We`re confident he`ll fit in well and are looking forward to a good season together.”
