Mexico : SS 3 - 21.61 kmEl Cubilete is another fast stage which takes the crews up in the mountains and through the villages of Santana, La Luz and Sangre de Cristo. The drivers reach the finish when they arrive at the special and highly visible monument at the summit of El Cubilete.
The results were very close between the top five drivers but Petter Solberg managed to stay on top. The Subaru driver has won all three stages so far but Mikko Hirvonen is once again nearly matching the pace of the leader. Hirvonen took second position for the third consecutive time, losing only 2”3 over Solberg.
Marcus Gronholm crossed the line with the third fastest time, just 1”8 slower than his young Ford teammate.
Henning Solberg must have found a way to repair or at least reduce his brake problems, the Norwegian setting a surprisingly strong fourth place, four tenths of a second better than Sebastien Loeb in fifth position.
Manfred Stohl achieved the sixth best time at the wheel of the other OMV-backed Peugeot 307 WRC, followed by Chris Atkinson in seventh and Dani Sordo in eighth.
