Rally Mexico : SS 14 - Super SpecialThe final timed event of Leg 2 – the Nextel Super Special – ended with another stage victory of race leader Sebastien Loeb, his fifth consecutive today.
The Kronos driver added nearly ten seconds to his lead over Petter Solberg, the Norwegian finishing at a distant eighth place, his worst result so far in this rally. The total gap between the two leaders is now 37”7.
Marcus Gronholm clinched the second best time behind Loeb, finishing in front of the two OMV Peugeot Norway drivers, Manfred Stohl (3rd) and Henning Solberg.
Dani Sordo set the fifth quickest time, 1”5 better than Chris Atkinson and Luis Perez-Companc in sixth place, both drivers crossing the finish line with an identical time of 3`29”5.
In the race standings, Manfred Stohl is still third, nearly four minutes behind Loeb. Dani Sordo follows in fourth position, 32”2 behind the Austrian driver. The top five is completed by Henning Solberg, who drove cautiously to avoid putting too much strain on his car`s delicate brakes.
Toshi Arai finishes the day as the leader in the Production class, around 40 seconds in front of Nasser Al-Attiyah.
