A tough race for the NorwegianHenning Solberg topped off the impressive result of the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team with fifth place – in spite of having to deal with brake problems throughout the rally.
After each special stage he was only able to bring the Peugeot to a stop by employing the handbrake. But the effort paid off, nevertheless: five points for the manufacturer`s WRC and four points for the driver`s World Championship.
This result brought the Norwegian OMV duo Solberg/Menkerud up to eighth place in the FIA WRC intermediate standings.
“Starting from day two all I did was trying to get the car across the finishing line,” admitted Henning. “It would have been useless to attack since I had continuous brake problems. I was far enough ahead of sixth place but way too much behind fourth place. In the end I`m satisfied with fifth place. Even more so since this was my first start here.”
Eleven manufacturers points
Bozian Racing, the French tuning wizards, that employ the two Peugeot 307 World Rally Cars for the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team, also rejoiced. The eleven points won in Mexico currently add up to 21 overall points in the manufacturer`s WRC and third place was defended against Subaru.
“Two cars within the top 5, one even on the podium – that is a great result we might have dreamt of but have hardly expected. The Peugeots have proven their stability under the harshest conditions. That is something to build on. Now we`ll have to focus on preparing the cars perfectly for Argentina, our next assignment in the Manufacture 2 ranking. But I`m sure that Manfred will hold his own at the two tarmac rallies in Spain and Corsica, as well, and win points for the driver`s WRC ,” says a confident Jackie Bozian, Team Manager of the OMV Peugeot World Rally Team.
