Not enough time to secure the budgetDani Sola wanted to be at the start of the 2006 Rallye de Catalunya but the Spaniard didn`t have enough time to secure the necessary budget to rent a Xsara WRC.
The deadline to reach an agreement with the sponsors was tight and time ran out on Sola: “It`s a shame because we were very close. For a moment I thought that the negotiations would succeed but it is very difficult to find so much money for only one race,” admitted Sola.
“I am very grateful towards those who supported me in this project. It enables me to continue my efforts of trying to participate in another WRC event.”
In the meantime, Sola will focus on the first round of the Spanish Rally Championship – Rally Villa Joyosa - which will take place this weekend in Alicante. Dani will drive a Citroen C2 and is one of the favourites to win.
“Now I will concentrate my efforts on getting a good result with the Citroen C2,” added Sola. “I will have to adapt to this new car, to the team and to the national events, which include very good drivers. It won`t be easy.”
Sola has a clear goal for the first rally of the season: “First I must complete stage one and compare our potential against our rivals`. Then after the first service stop, I will increase my rhythm to score as many points as I can on this first rally. As I said, it won`t be easy because we have to adapt to the car and work with the engineers and the entire team to optimise our performance.”
