Before deciding on a possible return in 2007Citroen Sport are looking to return to the World Rally Championship after a sabbatical next year according to Guy Frequelin, but the decision will depend to a large extent to what is decided this week when the FIA World Council meet.
“I am optimistic we will be back in 2007,” said Fréquelin. “We like working with Sebastien and Daniel and I think they like working with us. We have a fantastic relationship. We`d like to work with them in 2007, but that`s not sure.”
Citroen will not be in the series next year ‘in an official capacity` but has offered to supply equipment to customer teams and Fréquelin is hopeful that his current pilots will be in action in the Citroen badged cars.
Loeb however has yet to make a decision on 2006 but with just one works drive available alongside Marcus Gronholm at Ford, the Champion is willing to gamble and await Citroen`s decision.
“There`s still a second Ford seat, but it limits them a bit,” said Sebastien Loeb. “It was my decision to wait to see what Citroen has in mind for the future, though, and I`m happy with that. If that closes any opportunity with Ford, so be it.”
