Despite stunning podium in two-year old Focus
It`s not too often that a privateer makes the podium in a World Rally Championship event and it is even less likely that a driver can make the podium in a two-year old WRC spec-car. That is what Mikko Hirvonen and co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen managed at the weekend in the 2003-spec Ford Focus.
"This is my final rally for this year so it`s the best possible finish I could expect to the rally," said Hirvonen after claiming his first podium position with a late rally charge. "We`ll see what`s going to happen in the future."

The Finn was asked about his plans for 2006 in the post rally press conference and whether the result in Spain helps his cause for next season.

"You never know, but it doesn`t do any harm," the gravel specialist said. "Actually I`m a bit worried at the moment that if I do get something for next year it`ll only be for tarmac rallies!"
