Competing in Czech Republic and ItalySkoda Motorsport was victorious at the weekend on two events. The Czech Republic Meeting of Champions held at the Autodrom Sosnová was the setting for a fourth successive victory for Jan Kopecký and his second with the Fabia WRC 05.
Meanwhile at the Monza Rally Show in Italy Rinaldo "Dindo" Capello repeated his 2004 victory with the Fabia WRC while Colin McRae was third with the same car.
The Monza Rally Show - held inside the F1 circuit - attracted thousands of fans to see their local heroes, racing specialist "Dindo" Capello and MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi. The other big star was former World Rally Champion Colin McRae, driving the Fabia WRC on tarmac for the first time and finishing third behind Capello and Rossi.
Jan Kopecký
"My victory was tight, but for that reason gave me more pleasure. When the snow began to fall, the route was extremely slippery. Just in the first run of the final stage I slid off the road on gravel and lost some time. But I didn‘t give up and ran flat out for victory. I would like to thank the Skoda Motorsport team for the opportunity and to all of the team members for their faultless work. They deserved the victory too."
Rinaldo "Dindo" Capello
"I´m very happy to have my opprtunity to confirm my last year result because I knew that this year it will be not so easy. Valentino drove the very latest factory specification Subaru and he was not an easy opponent for me. He also had official tyres while we only had customer version. It was a disadvantage for us but we managed it. To start in the same team as Colin was a great honour for me because I´m big fan of him. He, together with Valentino, attracted big interest from spectators."
Colin McRae
"Monza Rally Show is an event very different from any classical rally and is more like racing. We pushed as hard as possible and we tried to get the most from the car and from ourselves. It has nothing common with a tarmac rally, because you have to defend your place back to back. It is very specific race."
Martin Muehlmeier, Head of Škoda Motorsport
"Our start on these events was a way to thank our fans for their support during the whole season. Although on this type of event the victory is not the main priority I`m glad that all three drivers not only entertained the spectators, but also managed a solid result for the Fabia WRC 05."
