Oman World Rally Team (OWRT) driver Hamed Al-Wahaibi powered his Japan's SYMS- built Subaru Impreza WRX 2005 to the 8th place run in the Propecia Rally New Zealand, the second round of the Production Car World Rally Championship (PCWRC), first for the Omani ace.
Al-Wahaibi was 11th after Saturday's leg 2. Hamed scored his first point in the PCWRC series this season.
"It was a tough and twisty event," said Al- Wahaibi. "We are struggling to get in shape after the long rallying break. I did my best and feel content with the result. Our plan is to complete the rallies, regain confidence and driving touch then go for full-gear competition next year," mentioned an upbeat Hamed.
Supported by many local and international corporate houses including BankMuscat, Oman Mobile, Coca Cola (Quwat Jabal) and Oman Trading Establishment (OTE) – Subaru dealer in the Sultanate, the OWRT driver added that soon after return to Muscat he will mull over the pros and cons of the New Zealand event. "I want to thank my co-driver David and team members who have put in tireless efforts and shown great dedication and support to me," concluded Hamed.
Hamed's next assignment will be in the Cyprus Rally, which will be held from 13- 15 May 2005.
